Selected Poems of Joy Goswami

Sampurna Chattarji’s translation of Joy Goswami’s Selected Poems came out from Harper Perennial in 2014 and was shortlisted for the inaugural Khuswant Singh Memorial Prize for Poetry. The book played no small role in Joy Goswami being honoured as India’s first Poet Laureate, about which more here.

It was briefly reviewed here and discussed in depth by poet, critic and teacher Sumana Roy for Asymptote.

Eminent poet K. Satchidanandan featured the book in a detailed article for Frontline magazine.

And Sanjukta Poddar called the collection “a testimony of the tremendous commitment to poetry by both the poet and the translator” in her piece for North East Review.

The publication of the book was celebrated in Bombay on August 17th, with Sampurna in conversation with fellow-poet and translator Ranjit Hoskote.
